Set in post-apocalyptic Chicago, this is the second film in the Divergent trilogy of sci-fi dramas. The society in this nightmarish future has been divided into five factions, based on personality types. Some people are Divergent - they defy classification and are dangerous to the established order. Our adolescent heroes, Tris and Four, can't be put into personality boxes, so the ruling Erudite class - especially leader Jeanine Matthews - wants them dead. They go on the run, hunted throughout the rubble of this once great city. They find allies, enemies, and confront the mystery of their past. As the various factions head toward all-out war, Tris and Four learn the about the mysterious event that started this whole mess, face great obstacles, and head into an unsure future.
