Spike Lee directs this biographical drama-comedy based on the memoir Black Klansman by Ron Stallworth. The film explores Ron Stallworth's early years as the first African-American police officer at the Colorado Springs Police Department in the '70s. Even though he's a rookie, Stallworth (John David Washington) is given an undercover assignment to attend a local rally. He later discovers an advertisement for the Ku Klux Klan, and on a whim, he calls in pretending to be interested to join their group. However, Stallworth must meet the KKK in person, which will blow his cover story. To work around this issue, one of his fellow cops (Adam Driver) impersonates him at the meeting. The two cops are hoping to discover the actions of the KKK before any violence can be perpetrated.
